Full Bathroom Diary

Delayed update, but I am still working on trim in the full bathroom.
I removed the old door casings from the entrance door and the closet
door. I then removed all of the baseboard in the room.
I made custom door entablatures to match the ones on the rest of
the second floor, and installed them. They don't have the appliques
yet.
I installed all new baseboard in the room, the same as the rest of
the second floor. Because it's MDF (because the profile isn't
available in real wood), and MDF is generally a no-no in a full
bathroom, this involved a lot of prep work. I sealed the back
with oil-based primer (Kilz Original), and also a coat of oil-based
paint for the pieces in the shower/toilet area. For all of the cuts,
I primed with Zinsser B-I-N or a combination of SealCoat and PVA
glue. The pieces in the shower/toilet area got a coat of oil-based
paint on the front side, as well as a bead of silicone caulk underneath
the bottom edge.

I have been working on replacing the trim in the full bathroom, so it
will match the remainder of the second floor.

I replaced the ceiling fixture 75W incandescent light bulb with a Cree
LED equivalent. I replaced the shower fixture 100W incandescent light
bulb with a Cree 60W equivalent. This one will need to be changed to
a brighter bulb, but I don't have one on hand at the moment.
I replaced the overhead light switch with the Lutron MS-OPS5M I pulled
from the basement stairwell. I replaced the old paddle switch for the
shower light with a Lutron MS-OPS2.

I installed a Pass & Seymour GFCI outlet with nightlight
(1595NTLTRWCC4) in the full bathroom on the second floor, replacing
the existing GFCI outlet. I'm glad I did this, since I found the
original GFCI outlet incorrectly wired for the downstream non-GFCI
outlet, which was dangerous and a code violation. Not the first
miswiring I've found in the house, and probably not the last.

I stopped at Home Depot on the way home from work and picked up another
Lutron Maestro MA-T51H-WH timer switch. I installed it in the full
bathroom on the second floor, replacing the exhaust fan switch. Now
both full bathrooms have timer switches for the exhaust fans.

I installed an occupancy-sensing light switch in the second floor
bathroom. This bathroom does not have a switch on the entrance wall;
the first switch required you to enter the room and walk to the right
side of the vanity to hit the switch on the wall to the right of the
vanity. It was awkward at best, dangerous if there was something on the
floor. Wth the occupancy-sensing switch, the light comes on as you pass
the doorway, even with the sensitivity set low. I will probably
experiment with putting tape over the sensing lens to reduce the
sensitivity a bit. But for now I have the timer set to 1 minute, and
hence I shouldn't be wasting a lot of power by walking by the bathroom a
few times a day.
I'd like to install occupancy-sensing switches in the other half of
this bathroom.
